ilotopie was born on a Rhone’s islet in Camargue, among gigantic industrial sites and wild moors, presenting artistic actions in public space as early as 1980.Forming a team of creators, actors, sculptors, dancers, musicians and seachers, we chose to live on a collective artistic work at the boundaries of individual and social challenges. Everybody remembers “PLM” (Palace à loyer modéré), the transformation of a council house into a council palace in the working-class suburb of Marseille (1990), “Champs d’Expérience Ier” for the festival of Avignon (1993) and
“La Mousse en Cage”, which was performed throughout festivals worldwide
.

1992 the compagnie’s builders-comedians design and erect
le Citron Jaune”, big building for big family, in Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône.

There we simmer now our searchs and performances by the side of artists and other groups invited as residents, thus sharing a creation dynamics which constitutes the main mission of this manufacturing and experiencing laboratory. Naturally this workshop is also the starting point of all our trips from festivals to cultural events worldwide.
Thanks to our language of living images and poetical situations we present performances at city and landscape-level, impressive directions or intimate meetings connecting plastic arts, theater and dance.

The audience is always the surprise guest in our creations. Chosen far away from season-ticket holders they’re seized on images and gather, puzzled, new suspicions on their society. They’re not touched but crossed.

Our goal shared shows, performances, cultural events, an infusion of what we always attempt to offer to the spectators: a bouquet of senses and emotions.
